Mukumu Girls' High School deaths: Principal replaced as CS Machogu orders sinking of new borehole

Education Cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced the replacement of Mukumu Girls' High School principal Frida Ndolo with Sr Jane Mmbone Wamukoya.

He made the announcement on Saturday, when he visited the school, following the deaths of four people - three students and a teacher - and the hospitalisation of more than 500 students following contamination of food and water at the school.

Ndolo came under fire after reports of water and food contamination leading to the death of the first two students at the school came out and she blamed the media for the school's closure in a circular addressed to parents.

She accused the media of creating a "toxic environment" which she claimed led to the school's closure.

Meanwhile, the CS also ordered the sinking of a new borehole and the treatment of water across the county.

He said a water purification system worth Ksh6 million will be given to the school.

Machogu said the medical bills of hospitalised students will be waived.

Machogu announced that the school will be reopened in two weeks.

He said students will receive guidance and counselling following the tragedy.

While at the school, Machogu also ordered the destruction of all food and procurement of a new consignment.
