Murang’a County to get Ksh 400M water project

Residents of Murang’a County are set to benefit from a 400-million-shilling fund set aside for water projects under the Northern Water Collector Tunnel (NWCT) project.
On Friday, Tana Water Board of directors Chairman Peter Kimari Kihara said that the project is designed to fetch 140,000 cubic meters of flood water from Maragua, Irati and Gikigie rivers to boast water supply to Nairobi.
The Chair said that the water project will greatly benefit Murang’a County adding that it has already started with tenders having been floated by Athi Water Services Board.
The Chair Tana Water Board of Directors noted that as the water project kicks off, it will also pave way for provision of clean piped water to all the learning institutions in the area as a way of boasting conducive learning environment as well as observing hygiene.
He said that besides the water project in Murang’a County, the Tana Water Board has also embarked on other projects such as construction of dams in Embu and Meru counties with an aim of providing clean drinking water to the residents.
