Muranga court clerk lynched by irate mob

A Muranga court clerk was on Friday night beaten unconscious and set ablaze in Gitumbi area, Kirinyaga county for allegedly barring his son’s burial preparations from taking place.

The incident occurred at about 7pm in Gitumbi village when the man returned home and found the burial preparations underway.

The clerk reportedly arrived armed with an axe and tried to chase away mourners who had gathered at the home.

Their screams attracted the attention of villagers who cornered the clerk and beat him senselessly before setting him ablaze.

John Kiama, a fire fighter in Kirinyaga county, arrived at the scene after the mob had already killed the suspect.

He said that the man had threatened the mourners who then retaliated with anger.

The angry villagers apparently stayed at the scene watching the body burn until midnight when the police arrived.

John Wachira in charge of Gitumbi confirmed the incident.
