Murang’a Gaza gang member arrested

Police in Murang’a on Monday arrested a 19-year-old woman suspected to be part of a local gang that is terrorising residents in the area.

She was arrested with several mobile phones and electronics after police raided a home in Gituri village in Kiharu Constituency after a tip-off from the public. Two other suspects escaped.

The lady, who sat her KCSE exam in 2015, confessed shocking revelations of how the gang, called Gaza, used to snatch phones and handbags from residents of Murang’a and Makuyu towns even in broad daylight.

According to a police officer who requested anonymity, the suspect also released names of Boda boda operators, she says, help in ferrying them once they commit their crime.

Just like their counterparts in Kayole estate, Nairobi, the Murang’a Gaza group is made up of young boys and girls who are either primary or secondary school dropouts.

The lady is being held at Murang’a Police Station ready to be arraigned.
