Murang’a residents torch police car over bodaboda rider

Angry residents in Murang’a County torched a vehicle belonging to a chief traffic officer claiming that he caused the death of a bodaboda rider.

According to them, the officer was in pursuit of the man in Kangari village, Kigumo Constituency, after he allegedly disobeyed an order to stop.

In the process, the rider hit an oncoming lorry whose driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll and crush him to death.

The incident took place on Kangari road towards Ikumbi.

However, Kigumo OCPD  Ibrahim Mchuma denied the claims saying the rider was driving recklessly.

Two police officers were seriously injured and rushed to hospital while the body of the deceased was taken to Githumu Mortuary.

Police were forced to use teargas to scatter a rowdy crowd that gathered at the scene.
