Muslims mark Eid Ul Fitr

Muslim faithful across the country have begun celebrating Eid Ul Fitr despite an announcement by the Chief Kadhi Ahmed Muhdhar that the holiday would be marked on Saturday.

The chief Kadhi made the announcement on Thursday insisting that the moon had not yet been sighted.

Thousands of Muslim faithful around the country thronged various prayer grounds to mark the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.

The faithful celebrated while commending the government for its efforts to tackle insecurity and alcoholism.

The Chief Kadhi said those breaking the fast on Friday are going against the teachings of Islam.

The moon had not been sighted by Thursday evening.

Muslims across the country started the Islamic Holy month of Ramadan in mid June.

Muslims observe the Ramadan immediately after the sighting of the new moon following the culmination of the month of Shaban in the lunar-based Hijrah calendar.

During the Ramadan, Muslims focus on reparation for wrongdoings and good deeds.

It is also the most ideal time for them to rebuild community, organizational and family ties severed by misunderstandings.
