Muthoni wa Kirima visits Mama Ngina to thank her for clearing Ksh.4.7M loan, buying her a house

Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima on Thursday visited Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the First Lady of Kenya’s founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, to express gratitude to her and her family for the kindness they have extended to her in recent years.

Field Marshal Muthoni thanked Mama Ngina for clearing her pending bank loan amounting to Ksh.4.7 million and buying her a home in Nyeri last year.

She also thanked the former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother for accepting to travel to Nyeri on April 1, 2022 to shave her dreadlocks, which she has since donated to the Museum of Kenya.

Muthoni cited that the act of cutting her hair symbolized the end of the struggles Kenya underwent under colonial rule, and that the era of fighting for freedom was now behind.

During the occasion which took place at Mama Ngina’s Muthaiga home, the Field Marshal was accompanied by over a dozen member of her immediate family memners and a handful of Kikuyu elders.

Mama Ngina received gifts from the family of the Field Marshal that included goats, a pot, a three-legged stool, a traditional tray, a kiondo (African basket) and food from her shamba.

While registering her appreciation for the visit, Mama Ngina observed that when the dreadlocks cut from Field Marshal will be taken to the museum, future generations and visitors from all over the world will be reminded of the sacrifices some Kenyans made for the country’s liberation.

"Now you see for yourself the people who were in the forest fighting for this country because nowadays people pretend to know a lot… We have done a lot for this country," stated the former First Lady.
