The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kiunjuri has won the Laikipia East parliamentary seat.

Kiunjuri managed to unseat the incumbent Laikipia East legislator Amin Deddy who was contesting on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

Official results released on Thursday by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) showed that the TSP leader garnered 30,057 votes while Deddy managed 28,021 votes.

Speaking after being awarded his nomination certificate, Kiunjuri termed the win a key step in the growth of his party.

He said: “This journey has just started today. We are now in Parliament, we have a Woman Rep selected somewhere and we also have county seats, so it’s important that we have grounded ourselves.”

“I want to assure our supporters across the country that we are only getting started,” added Kiunjuri.

The TSP leader is a former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary who served under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration until January 2020.

Kiunjuri had in 2013 unsuccessfully sought the Laikipia governor seat under the Grand National Unity (GNU) party.
