'My name should not be dragged...' Kindiki slams Mt Kenya succession politics as primitive

Kindiki who took to social platform X on Tuesday, demanded that all talk about 2027 succession cease, or in the very least, his name be expunged from the debate.

Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki has dismissed 2027 succession politics as 'tactless, anti-people, and primitive'.

Kindiki who took to social platform X on Tuesday, demanded that any talk about the 2027 succession cease, or at the very least, his name be expunged from the debate.

"The ongoing debate ought to stop, but if it must proceed, I respectfully request that my name not be dragged in it," the CS wrote on X.

According to the Interior Ministry chief, political talk about the 2027 polls, coming slightly over a year since the last election is a blemish on Kenyan democracy's maturity.

"President Ruto has assigned me the role of championing his Administration’s programs for the transformation of our Country into a sustainably safe homeland for this and future generations," CS Kindiki said.

The CS, who said he would not be taking part in any idle talk about 2027 succession, said the role bequeathed to him by the Head of State is quite sensitive, and it requires "relentless focus and total abstinence from all manner of distracting misadventure."

The debate about 2027, started late last year when leaders in UDA started politicking about who should be Ruto's deputy when running for reelection as well as who should be president when he retires after 10 years.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing a hostile political arena with many leaders asking President Ruto to drop him and pick somebody else.

A caucus of legislators from Central Kenya has backed Kiharu MP Ndindi for the Deputy President position, urging the Head of State to replace the incumbent.

It started with Ndindi Nyoro and now Kindiki's name has been thrown into the mix.

According to the Daily Nation, recently during the burial of Kindiki's father-in-law, a section of Meru leaders demanded that Ruto pick the former Tharaka Nithi Senator which occasioned his furious response.

Experts have warned that political talk so early into the Kenya Kwanza government's first term in office portends no good for the country.
