'My net worth is Ksh.218M,' says Alice Wahome at CS vetting exercise

Cabinet Secretary nominee for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Alice Wahome has revealed that she has a net worth of Ksh.218 million.

While appearing before the Parliamentary Committee of Appointments for the CS vetting exercise on Monday, the legislator intimated that she has accumulated the wealth from assets she shares with her husband.

She further noted that her current source of income is the salary she receives as an MP, monthly rent from some of her properties, and a monthly allowance from her law firm of Ksh.100,000.

"My net worth is Ksh.218 million and this is value of properties between myself and my husband. They are family assets," she said.

"Until September I have earned a salary from parliament and been in and off practising though very low because as a member of parliament you have very little time in your hands," she added.

"I get a fuel allowance of about Ksh.100,000 from my firm and also from these properties, which are in my name, I get about Ksh.500,000 a month but at the moment they do not have tenants since Covid and therefore I have no income coming from that end. I'm relying on the little Ksh.100,000 and the MP salary."

Wahome was the last nominee of President Ruto's 22 cabinet nominees who appeared on the first day of grilling before the committee headed by National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula.

Other nominees who sat in the hot seat were Prime Cabinet Secretary nominee Musalia Mudavadi, Attorney General nominee Justin Muturi, Defence CS nominee Aden Duale and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS nominee Alfred Mutua. They intimated that their net worth was Ksh.4 billion, Ksh.700 million, Ksh.851 million and Ksh.420 million respectively.

The exercise, according to a communiqué by the Clerk of the National Assembly Sarah Kioko, will run through to Saturday, October 22, with the exception of Thursday, October 20, when the country will observe Mashujaa Day.
