Mzee Odungi Randa has been elected as the new Luo Council of Elders Chairman, otherwise known as ‘Ker’, to replace Willis Opiyo Otondi who passed away early this year.

Mzee Odungi, who hails from Kisumu County, is now the ninth Chairman of the council and he will be deputised by James Ayanga from Siaya County.

He was elected by Luo elders from four Nyanza counties (Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori and Kisumu) during the third extravaganza dubbed ‘Piny Luo’ held at Homa Bay High School on July 1, 2023

Mzee Odungi was picked in a race that had pitted him against two others that were also seeking the seat; Mzee Ayanga, who is now his deputy, as well as Mzee Adera Osawa from Migori County.

The election was a culmination of a ceremony that was attended by opposition leader and perceived Luo kingpin Raila Odinga.

He was flanked by Governors from the region namely; Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), James Orengo (Siaya), Ochillo Ayacko (Migori), and Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili representing his boss, Governor Anyang’ Nyongo.
