The intelligence-led crackdown was carried out on Tuesday afternoon by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), with support from officers from the National Police Service (NPS), following complaints from residents about a suspected drug distributor operating near Tuimani Kindergarten School, adjacent to a Kenya Assemblies of God (KAG) church.
Members of the public had raised concerns over increased drug-related activity in the area, warning that the alleged peddler’s operations near the school posed a serious threat to children and young people.
Acting on the information, a multi-agency team led by NACADA raided a shop and a nearby residential house believed to be used as a base for the illegal drug trade.
During the operation, officers found the two suspects inside the premises allegedly preparing and rolling plant material believed to be cannabis, commonly known as bhang, for distribution and consumption.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of 680 rolls of suspected bhang, along with additional plant material believed to be narcotic substances that were ready for further processing and sale.
The suspects were immediately arrested and escorted to Kware Police Station, where they are currently being held as investigations continue. NACADA confirmed that the recovered exhibits have been secured and will be presented as evidence in court once the suspects are formally charged.
Speaking after the operation, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa commended members of the public for providing crucial intelligence that enabled the successful crackdown.
“Our determination to ensure that communities remain safe from drug lords and their associates continues in earnest,” said Dr. Omerikwa. “NACADA will do whatever it takes to bring them down and protect our communities. We are particularly concerned when such activities occur near learning institutions because our goal is to promote a society where children and the youth can grow and thrive in a drug-free environment.”
He emphasised that community cooperation remains critical in the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse, urging residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to authorities.
NACADA further confirmed that enforcement operations in Kware and other parts of the country will continue as part of sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking, protect families, and safeguard communities.
