The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized 2,400 stones of cannabis during a late-night multi-agency operation in Kapsabet Town, Nandi County.
The intelligence-led raid, conducted between 9.00 p.m. and 12.30 a.m. near the Kapsabet Showground area in Bondeni, also led to the recovery of a 20-litre jerrican containing processed plant material suspected to be cannabis seeds and 116 bottles (200 ml each) of suspected contraband vodka believed to have originated from Uganda.
One suspect was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court, while all seized items were secured as exhibits.
Authorities said the illegal drugs were being distributed from a residential area accessible to school-going children, raising concern over exposure of minors to narcotics.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa said the operation forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven crackdowns targeting drug trafficking and illicit alcohol networks across the country.
He noted that the agency is focusing on disrupting supply chains while expanding prevention programmes aimed at reducing drug demand within communities.
The Nandi raid follows similar enforcement operations in neighbouring Trans Nzoia County, where officers recovered more than 400 litres of unlicensed ethanol from a suspected alcohol counterfeiting operation and arrested three suspects.
In a separate operation at Kitale Bus Park, NACADA officers seized over 180 rolls of cannabis and apprehended three more suspects linked to drug distribution.
NACADA has urged members of the public to report suspected drug trafficking and illicit alcohol activities as authorities intensify enforcement efforts nationwide.
