NACADA to engage Governors in intensifying war against alcohol, drug abuse

The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has announced plans to intensify the war against drug abuse in the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, NACADA Chairperson Rev. Stephen Kiptoem Mariori said the authority will engage County Governments and other stakeholders to collaborate in finding solutions to drug abuse challenges in the country.

“Having keenly followed the pronouncement by H.E the President in several of his recent public meetings and aware of the growing concerns on the problem of alcohol and drug abuse, I take this matter as a serious problem which calls for a multi-faceted approach from all key stakeholders if the war is to be won,” said Dr. Mariori.

He added: “In line with this, we are immediately prioritizing deliberations with the Council of Governors, County Governors. and other stakeholders in adherence to these instructions.”

The new NACADA boss who was appointed by President Ruto reiterated the authority’s commitment to working with the National Government Administration Officers and other stakeholders in ensuring that the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act. 2010 is strictly enforced to control sub-standard, counterfeits and contrabands and any form of uncertified alcoholic drinks which endanger lives.

“Going forward. we will also engage with stakeholders and propose amendments to the prevailing legal frameworks to the emerging trends,” he added.

“The Authority will work closely with Faith-Based Organizations. Youth Organizations, Civil Society Organizations. Community-Based Organizations and all other key stakeholders in a bid to find a lasting solution to this challenge. Together. we can ensure that our nation is free from alcohol and drug abuse.”
