The National Police Service (NPS) has made major changes in its leadership structures by transferring a number of officers.

Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei is among big names affected by the transfer as he heads to the police headquarters as Director of Operations.

Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah will now take over Bungei’s position in Nairobi. Bungei takes over from William Yiampoy, whose next assignment remains unclear.

In the major shake-up, NPS has also named Michael Nyaga as its new spokesperson.  Nyaga previously served as Kiambu Police Commander.

Resila Onyango, who had been holding the spokesperson position since November 2022 will now become the Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit.

Kwale Police Commander Ali Nuno has now been promoted to Coast Regional Police Commander, with hopes of addressing Mombasa's gang-related challenges.

Inspector General Douglas Kanja described these changes as routine, aimed at enhancing service operations.

Mwangi Wanderi, formerly Head of National Forensics Laboratory, will now be the Director of Human Capital at Vigilance House. Rosemary Kuraru now leads the National Forensics Laboratory.

In other changes, Judy Jebet will take over the Community Policing unit from John Gachomo as Daniel Korir moves to command the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU).

Michael Sang has been named the head of DCI in the Eastern Region.
