Addressing the press on Tuesday, KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah said the facility is among other private institutions where medics have had to resign over the poor working conditions, with others working under duress for fear of victimisation.
The Nairobi hospital management has continued to harass and mistreat our members, reduce their medical cover in the name of financial constraints as stories of financial mismanagement spreads along the corridors. The sweat of hardworking health workers is being enjoyed by a few people who have become overnight millionaires,” said the KMPDU SG.
The union vowed to mobilise its members to down their tools in seven days if the management will not have met their demands.
The union accused Nairobi Hospital Board chairperson of disrupting an AGM meeting held on December 4, 2024.
Doctors and distinguished members of this once great hospital were abused in broad day light when the disgraceful and rogue board chairman and his stooges hired goons to pretend as bona fide KHA members to come and mishandle and beat up the real members who were keen to impeach the management and rescue the hospital from imminent collapse,” said the union.
KMPDU called on members of Kenya Hospital Association, Admitting Staff Association, Staff of the Nairobi Hospital and other government agencies, to rise up and ‘save the facility of choice from imminent closure and collapse.’
They demand the resignation of the entire board of directors lead by their Chairperson Chris Bichage and the acting CEO.
