According to a statement released by IEBC on Tuesday, this number is about 25% of the intended target aimed at the close of the voter registration process.
The number of registered voters now rises to a total of 21 million with the same expected to change ahead of the 2022 general election once the Commission cleans up the register.
Cleaning up the register, in this case, means removing double registered voters or those that may have died since 2017 from the voter registration list.
From the statistics gathered by the Commission, counties that
recorded the highest number of voters were Nairobi 152,000, Nakuru 62,000,
Kiambu 59,000, Kakamega 57,000 and Kisii at 56,000 voters.
Counties that closely followed in this category included Bungoma
at 51,000 voters, Meru recorded 47,000, Uasin Gishu 46,000, Kisumu and Kilifi each registering
44,000 and 42,000 respectively.
IEBC has however pointed out that Citizens who were left out at the conclusion of the process can still be registered at any constituency headquarters.
"Pursuant to Article 88(4)(a) and (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 the Commission has
resumed the Constituency office-based Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and Revision of the
Voter’s Roll upon conclusion of the ECVR," read a section of the statement.
The Commission further states that it will publish a gazette notice of the availability of the register of voters (ROV) for verification not later than 28th February 2022 to pave way for the commencement of inspection and Biometric Verification of Data.
