Nairobi’s Taj Mall junction a gangster’s paradise

Nairobi’s Taj Mall junction a gangster’s paradise

Construction of the Outering Road in Nairobi was expected to be the long-awaited solution to the nightmare of traffic snarl ups.

The road has however come with benefits and dangers in equal measure with the Taj Mall Area of the road turning into a very dangerous place, controlled by gangs.

Residents have since taken to social media to express their pain and fears. The gang is reported to be terrorising motorists and attacking anyone on foot.

Those on foot find it difficult to cross the road for there are no footbridges on this road as yet with women and children for example putting their lives at risk while crossing.

Matatu operators also have an issue with the design of the road and have taken over one lane of the roundabout at Kariobangi roundabout and turned it to a stage.

The road that was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015 came as a blessing to Eastlands  and city dwellers at large but now behind this mega infrastructure, lies a dark scary story.
