According to the Full Year Implementation Report of the 2024/2025 budget released on Wednesday, the counties demonstrated commendable performance in utilizing funds allocated for development projects.
Nandi County led with a 90% absorption rate, followed by Trans Nzoia at 77%, Narok at 74%, Meru at 73%, while Kericho, Kirinyaga, and Mandera each recorded 72%.
The Controller of Budget, however, raised concerns over counties that continue to underperform in development spending, despite having money sitting idle in their accounts. She noted that such inefficiencies deny residents the benefits of key development projects.
Counties with the lowest absorption rates include Nairobi City and Kisumu at 29% each, Nyamira at 37%, and Kiambu also at 37%.
Overall, counties spent a total of Ksh.123.8 billion on development, translating to a 57% absorption rate.
