Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome declared National Super Alliance’s (NASA) planned memorial service at Jacaranda grounds on Tuesday, November 28 illegal.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, November 25, Koome said that the police’s priority on Tuesday during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration will be to secure Nairobi city, insisting that the opposition coalition has not informed the police of the planned event.

“Information reaching us is that there is another meeting on Tuesday other than the President’s inauguration. The law is very clear if you were to hold a public gathering. You have to inform the police. Up to this morning we have not been notified of any other meeting on Tuesday,” said Koome.

NASA leader Raila Odinga on Friday indicated that the opposition will on Tuesday hold a major memorial service at Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi, Nairobi, to condole with the families of those killed by police in post poll chaos.

The county commander said that security will be heightened because of the high number of diplomats expected to grace President Kenyatta’s swearing-in ceremony.
