NASA orders opposition MPs to boycott House sitting
National Super Alliance has on Tuesday ordered its affiliated members in the Senate and the National Assembly to boycott proceedings as Jubilee tables Bills on the controversial amendments to election laws.
Orange Democratic Movement chairman, John Mbadi, and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior said that the NASA legislators will protest this afternoon’s proceedings which they have termed as illegal.
Speaking after a joint parliamentary group meeting at Parliament, the NASA legislators said it is unacceptable for one side of the political divide to push through its agenda without consulting the opposition.
“We refuse to sanitize the process with our participation and we will not legitimize at the floor,” said Mbadi.
The NASA legislators also called on the Speakers of both Houses to do the right thing in the name of justice, terming the proceedings as criminal activities and could, according to them, constitute the staging of a coup.
“This law is an attempt to overturn the Supreme Court ruling, but it is stillborn,” said warned Senator Kilonzo.
NASA legislators have been crying foul over the proceedings since the motion that instituted the electoral laws amendment proceedings were first tabled.
