Ndindi Nyoro freed, no charges to be preferred against him lawyer says

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was released from police custody and will not be charged in court, lawyer Irungu Kang’ata said.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday morning, the advocate said there was no reason to warrant his arrest.

“We were able to use our legal argument and show that there is no evidence against Ndindi Nyoro,” he said on phone.

Mr. Kang’ata also refuted claims that his client had been in hiding saying that the MP had even presided over Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects during the day.

According to him, his client even appeared for the Monday night show on Citizen TV and would not have done so if he was hiding from police.

When asked about the drama that unfolded after police officers seeking Mr. Nyoro surrounded the venue of the show, the lawyer said:

“His (Mr. Nyoro’s) supporters were not happy with that (the arrest) and that is why there were chaotic scenes in Murang’a Town.”

The Kiharu MP was arrested on Monday night after leaders clashed during a church fundraiser in Murang’a County the previous day.

The Tanga Tanga team, led by Nyoro, reportedly stormed Gitui Catholic Church and attempted to disrupt the fundraiser.

Nominated MP Maina Kamanda, who is affiliated to the Kieleweke faction, had been invited as the chief guest.

The two factions reportedly clashed over who among the two leaders should have introduced the guests who were present.

“I can’t allow people from Nairobi to come and take over my constituency as if they know this area. I am an elected leader and I tell Mr. Kamanda to his face that let them produce the list of the guests so that I can invite them,” Daily Nation quoted Mr. Nyoro.
