Ngugi wa Thiong’o cremated in the US per final wishes

Renowned Kenyan writer Ngugi wa Thiong’o has been cremated in the United States, in accordance with his final wishes.
His son, Mukoma wa Ngugi, confirmed that the celebrated author had requested to be cremated where he died.
Mukoma noted that although cremation is not part of African tradition, the family honoured his father’s wish.
Professor Ngugi wa Thiong’o, who taught at universities abroad, died on May 28 in Atlanta, Georgia, aged 87.
He was one of Africa’s most influential literary voices, with his works widely read in Kenya and around the world.
