Nguviu Boys students in court for damaging school property

Three students from Nguviu Boys High School were on Friday charged with damaging school property.

While appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Samuel Mutai, the students denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 or bond of Sh100,000 each with surety of similar amount.

The charge sheet indicated that the trio willingly and unlawfully damaged dining hall window panes valued at Sh50,000 on Sunday, July 15, 2018.

The students include a 16-year-old Form Two student and two Form Three students aged 17.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations had sought court orders to detain the students longer as they conducted investigations before producing them in court.

Police in Embu North had arrested several students in connection with the Sunday fire but narrowed down to the three after a grilling session.

The court directed that the students be detained at the Runyenjes Juvenile Remand if they fail to raise bail.

Following the incident, the school was closed indefinitely. The case will be mentioned on Monday, August 6, 2018.
