The Ministry of Health has advised the public that the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) is still active and in use as the government works on the modernities to roll out the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has said that despite the delay in the rollout of the new health insurance scheme, there is no vacuum in the sector as the NHIF continue to be used.

Speaking in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County after church service on Sunday, the PS called for patience among Kenyans as the government fine-tunes the new health plan which she said will revolutionize Kenya’s health sector.

Muthoni noted that the Social Health Insurance scheme will be more beneficial to the public as they will be able to access health facilities without discrimination, adding that the fund also caters for all Kenyans down to the bottom of the pyramid.

“Some Kenyans have for long suffered with NHIF in place, that is why President William Ruto passed this scheme to help the ordinary Kenyan without a job or with a limited income access better healthcare,” said Muriuki.

The PS has also called for concerted efforts in the fight against drugs and substance abuse that have continued to rob society of some of the best brains.
