‘Nobody owes me anything,’ Ruto responds to ‘hatuna deni ya mtu’ narrative

Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at a vernacular song gone viral alluding to a split between himself and President Uhuru Kenyatta over a political ‘debt.’

The song titled ‘Hatuna deni ya mtu’ (we are in nobody’s debt) purports of broken ranks between Central Kenya and the Rift Valley.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, DP Ruto stated that nobody owed any community or person, including himself, anything.

Ruto further urged Kenyans to stop spreading hate speech and unite for the development of the country.

“I want to remind leaders what Paul says in Romans 13:8; owe no man nothing except the debt of love for one another,” he said.

“That is the debt that all of us have, to love one another; no person, no community, no section of Kenya, owes anybody – including myself – anything.”

The viral song has already caused uproar from a section of Rift Valley leaders who have since termed it as hate speech.
