Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi has passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at around 7:00 am.

In an official communication, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula described the MP's demise as a profound loss to Parliament and the country. His cause of death was not disclosed.

Hamisi, who was nominated to the National Assembly by the Amani National Congress (ANC) after the 2022 General Election, served in the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.

Wetang’ula said Hamisi was known for his humility and unwavering commitment to public service, noting that his contributions had left a mark both in Parliament and within the wider national community.

"On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey the heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar, and to all those who experienced his humility and steadfastness to service to the nation and the community."

Wetang’ula also appointed a team of Members of Parliament, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Owen Baya, to work with the family in planning a befitting send-off for the late legislator.

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Hamisi attended Mombasa Baptist High School between 1984 and 1989 before pursuing higher education at several institutions.

He studied for a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management at the United States International University (USIU) in 2000 and later obtained a Master of International Business Administration in 2002. He also earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi in 2006.

Before joining Parliament, Hamisi held key roles in both the public and private sectors.

His public service record includes serving as Director of the Coast Development Authority (2007-2010), Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (2007-2008), Director at the Kenya Airports Authority (2009-2012), Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011-2012), and Council Member at the University of Nairobi (2013-2018) and Moi University (2021-2022).
