Police in Kisumu East Sub-County have arrested a man believed to be part of a criminal gang that has been terrorising residents in Kisumu and its surrounding areas.

The suspect, James Kenneth Otieno, was nabbed by detectives from Gita Police Station following days of intelligence-led operations targeting the gang.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a statement said the operation intensified after Otieno’s alleged accomplice, Hussein Hassan, was lynched by members of the public on January 23, 2026, after he was cornered with a stolen motorcycle.

“Acting on intelligence, officers pounced on James Kenneth Otieno after days of relentless pursuit of a criminal gang accused of terrorising and robbing members of the public,” the DCI said.

According to DCI, Otieno’s accomplice, Hussein Hassan, was attacked by a mob on January 23, 2026, when he was cornered with a stolen motorcycle.

Police believe Otieno was still in possession of stolen property, prompting officers to raid his house in Kajulu Gardens, Konya sub-location.

During the raid, officers recovered three motorcycles, a 65-inch Hisense television, a 12-kilogram Menghas gas cylinder, a double-burner gas cooker, assorted mobile phones and various motorcycle spare parts.

The DCI noted that some of the recovered items have already been positively identified by their rightful owners.

Otieno is currently in police custody, undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

The remaining recovered items have since been secured as exhibits pending identification and collection by their owners.

The multi-agency has expressed commitment to eradicating crime and safeguarding lives and property across the country, while urging members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
