A student from Nyahururu Elite Secondary School is reported to have gone missing during a hiking session at Mount Longonot in Nakuru County.

According to the school head teacher, Mr. Simon Gacheru Macharia 26 Form Four students and 10 teachers had gone for the hike together with another group of about 70 people.

Two hours into the hike, one of the students identified as Enock Balemba aged 17 years reportedly became restless and told one of his schoolmates that he could not continue with the hike. The student, who is the school captain, opted to sit down and remain behind.

“Suddenly he stood up and ran towards the thickets and disappeared. The other students raised alarm and did inform their teacher about it,” reported the head teacher.

The teachers then decided to report the matter to  Longonot KWS camp where KWS Officers joined the search team and carried out a search until 8pm but the student could not be traced.

The search was called off and resumed on Friday.
