Nyakach Member of Parliament Aduma Joshua Owuor has pleaded not guilty to fraud charges.

Appearing before Magistrate Vincent Wakumile on Tuesday, the lawmaker was charged that between June 3-10, 2011, being the Director Legal Affairs at the Nairobi City Council, he conspired to defraud Ksh.10 million through irregular payment.

The MP is also facing another charge of abuse of office for allegedly unlawfully authorizing payment of the said amount to the late Steven Kariuki Mburu, a then partner at Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.

Aduma was charged alongside Manasseh Karanja Kepha and Peterson Andew Njiru, both former Accountants at the Nairobi City Council, as well as Charity Murigo Ndiritu, a former Internal Auditor.

Also charged is Paul Mutunga Mutungi, a former councilor who is facing a charge of acquiring over Ksh.1.4 million as proceeds from the above stated amount.

They all pleaded not guilty and were released on a personal bond of Ksh.10 million each, with the case set for mentioning on September 22 this year.
