Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor freed on Ksh.10M bond in fraud case

Owuor has pleaded not guilty to fraud charges.
Appearing before Magistrate Vincent Wakumile on
Tuesday, the lawmaker was charged that between June 3-10, 2011, being
the Director Legal Affairs at the Nairobi City Council, he conspired to defraud Ksh.10
million through irregular payment.
The MP is also facing another charge of abuse
of office for allegedly unlawfully authorizing payment of the said amount to the
late Steven Kariuki Mburu, a then partner at Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi and Company
Advocates.
Aduma was charged alongside Manasseh Karanja
Kepha and Peterson Andew Njiru, both former Accountants at the Nairobi City
Council, as well as Charity Murigo Ndiritu, a former Internal Auditor.
Also charged is Paul Mutunga Mutungi, a
former councilor who is facing a charge of acquiring over Ksh.1.4 million as
proceeds from the above stated amount.
They all pleaded not guilty and were released
on a personal bond of Ksh.10 million each, with the case set for mentioning on September
22 this year.
