Nyandarua: 12 couples tie the knot in colorful mass wedding

It was all joy and celebration at the St. Teresa Equator Catholic parish in Ol-Joro Orok Nyandarua County, where 12 couples exchanged vows in a one-of-a-kind mass wedding.

The couples exchanged vows at the church in a colorful ceremony attended by hundreds of worshipers and local leaders, including Ol-Joro Orok Member of Parliament Michael Muchir.

Bishop Joseph Mbatia of the Catholic Diocese of Nyahururu presided over the ceremony, in which love flowed freely and emotions filled the air.

Bishop Mbatia reminded couples of their roles in maintaining strong and healthy marriages in his homily.

He observed that said spouses are not meant to do as they please, pointing out that people who are married sometimes live as individuals.

He stated that selfishness and a lack of true love were major causes of disharmony and conflict in most families, and that this usually leads to some having extramarital affairs.

He advocated for respect and honor for all vocations, whether celibate or married.

The clergy encouraged husbands and wives to revitalize their marriages and foster love among all family members.

He said parents should make their homes the base for learning human and Christian values.

Couples interviewed expressed their joy at having realized their dreams of marrying for the first time, despite the fact that the high cost of planning prevented them from doing so alone.

Ol-Joro Orok Member of Parliament Michael Muchira and Gatimu Ward MCA Dancun Chege echoed their sentiments, observing that through mass weddings, couples are able to share the costs and thus make it affordable and easy to plan.

He said it was evident that the high cost of living was pushing couples into mass weddings.

They stated that many people are abandoning the traditional one-couple-wedding concept in favor of mass weddings because it saves money, and they also challenged those who have not married to do so if they can.
