Leaders from Nyanza region have united with residents to hold vigils for persons killed during anti-government protests.
In Homa Bay County, Governor Gladys Wanga led Azimio leaders and supporters in lighting the candles to remember the victims of police brutality during protests.
Wanga and other local leaders who were speaking during the event in Rusinga Island, Suba North constituency condemned police brutality, which left some Kenyans dead, and others nursing bullet injuries.
She was accompanied by her deputy Oyugi Magwanga, the County Assembly Speaker Julius Gaya, and they promised to stand with residents grappling with hospital bills.
In Migori County, residents joined other Kenyans in the memorial vigil, led by ODM party leaders from the region.
They held short prayer sessions at Posta ground, where ODM party secretary general Joseph Olala urged the police to stop killing innocent people during protests.
Olala said the right to demonstration is provided in the constitution and therefore the police must respect the constitution.
Similar remarks were echoed by Migori county ODM youth leader Erick Opany and Migori county Bunge la Wananchi chairperson Charles Osewe who asked the relevant authorities to take action against the police officers who killed and injured peaceful demonstrators.
