Nyeri teacher who had been missing since Sunday found murdered

Police in Nyeri County are looking for the killers of a primary school teacher whose body was found in a river in Gichira village in Tetu constituency.

Apollo Mungai, who was a teacher at the Gichira primary school, had been missing since Sunday.

Locals joined hands to look for him after he failed to report for duty on Monday, causing worry among those who knew him.

“Niyeye alikuwa teacher on duty na hakureport kwa hivyo ilituchukuwa kwa mstuko tukaanza kazi ya kumtafuta. Tulifuatilia pahali tulisikia kumeoneka damu imemwagika huko chini ndani ya mto,” said Stephen Waithaka, a resident.

And as they continued their search, they discovered his motorbike in a thicket with blood stains and on following the trail it led them to the river.

According to the deputy county commissioner in charge of Tetu sub county Oddilliah Ndeti, the body of the teacher had head injuries

The locals who described Apollo as a good neighbor are now calling on the police to speed up the investigations.

Police say they will track his phone in the initial phase of investigations.

The body was taken to Nyeri referral hospital morgue awaiting postmortem examination.
