Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga was on Thursday unanimously elected as the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy.

The committee handles matters related to fossil fuel exploration, development, production, maintenance and regulation of energy in the country. It was previously chaired by Nyeri Senator Wamatinga Wahome.

This will see Oginga steer the committee in considering matters concerning the operation of the Ministry of Energy headed by Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

During Thursday’s session, Wajir Senator Abass Mohamed and his nominated counterpart Catherine Mumma were unanimously elected as the chair and vice chair of the Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations respectively.
