ODM MPs laugh off Ruto-Gachagua combination

A section of ODM legislators in Homa Bay County have dismissed the choice of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President William Ruto's running mate in the August 9th General Election.

The MPs including Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and Senator Moses Kajwang argued that having Gachagwa as a running mate for Kenya Kwanza team is a sign that Ruto does not want the best for the country.

This is after the DP Ruto announced the nomination of the legislator on Sunday after a long wait on Saturday.

Addressing the press in Mbita Town during a meeting with teachers, Wanga laughed off the combination saying the past track record of the Mathira MP does not warrant him to lead the county as a deputy president.

“What is Rigathi Gachagua known for? What is his track record? Any Kenyan will tell you about billions of shillings lost in his scheme. Birds of a feather flock together,” said Wanga

Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang accused Kenya Kwanza of going against the two-third gender rule.

This is based on having the top brass of Dr Ruto's team filled by men; ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and now Gachagua.

“The Rigathi-Ruto ticket is a ticket of the arrogance and the anger. It is a ticket that will entrench impunity, loot, divide and destroy this country. This shows what Ruto believes when it comes to the position of women in leadership. It is about big men negotiating positions for themselves,” said Kajwang.

Former Kasipul MP and Wanga’s running mate in Homa Bay gubernatorial race Joseph Oyugi Magwanga and ODM Woman Representative nominee Dr Joyce Osogo say that Ruto and his Deputy have nothing to offer to Kenya arguing that it is only Azimio One Kenya Alliance that can build the country’s economy.
