ODM primaries: Kisumu quartet to unveil one candidate to face Governor Nyong'o
The
four leaders in Kisumu County who had resolved to work as a team ahead of the
coming polls have announced that they will on Friday make public their candidate
who will face off with sitting Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o in the ODM party
primaries.
The
leaders are; Senator Fred Outa, former Governor Jack Ranguma, former East
Africa Community Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ken Obura and former County
Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo.
The
four have been going around the county popularizing their bid to unseat
Governor Nyong’o in the impending showdown.
Former
Speaker Oloo now says that they have settled on a joint candidate who will be
supported by the others to fly the team’s flag.
Speaking
during a campaign rally in Nyakach sub-county on Thursdaty, Oloo said they will
unveil the candidate in Kisumu town.
“For
the last one or two months, we have been traversing this country with the hope
of identifying, through popular consultations, on who the candidate is going to
be,” he said.
“I
am pleased to announce that we have identified the candidate who is going to
hold our flag for the gubernatorial seat, and tomorrow within Kisumu entral, we
will unveil that person who will be our gubernatorial candidate in ODM.”
Senator
Outa said the team will all stand behind the candidate who will have been
chosen to lead them, adding that their unity is purposed by the desire to bring
a change to the county.
“We
want to abandon self interest and allow the interest of the people to prevail,
that is what brought us together…we have all brought down our egos,” said the
Senator.
In
the past, leaders allied to Governor Nyong’o, led by his deputy Mathew Owili,
have maintained that they are ready to meet anyone from the team in the ballot
as the county boss seeks to defend his seat.
