Police officer shot after gang attacks market

A police officer is nursing injuries after being shot by thugs who reportedly attacked Kipkaren Market at the Uasin Gishu – Kakamega border.

The thugs are said to have shot two other people before robbing traders of goods worth an unspecified amount during the Friday night incident.

The officer, attached to a police station in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, was part of a group of police officers engaged in a chase with the gang said to have escaped through a maize farm after committing the act.

The bullet lodged itself in the officer’s arm after failing to penetrate a bullet proof vest he was wearing during the attack.

Confirming the incident, Lugari OCPD Benedict Mwangangi said the officer was rushed to Reale Hospital in Eldoret as a manhunt for the suspects continue.
