The alliance, which comprises Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka, UDP’s Cyrus Jirongo and Gideon Moi of KANU, sought the registration of the coalition halted immediately.
OKA argued that the agreement submitted on April 1, 2022, was altered without the consent of the respective parties under the coalition
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, in a statement on Tuesday, said the alliance was causing exclusivity through their demands instead of uniting Kenyans.
“I’m therefore surprised that OKA are talking about inclusivity on one hand but advocating for exclusion of over 20 political parties who signed up to form Azimio,” said Mutua.
While calling on the alliance and all outfits allied to the Raila Odinga-led Azimio movement, Mutua cautioned OKA against losing sight of victory in the August polls.
“I would urge OKA and all our partners in Azimio to become more accommodative, not only to Mwanzo Mpya as the fourth leg, but to any other political outfit that wishes to join Azimio. We must not lose sight that we are looking for victory and politics is about numbers,” the governor stated.
Added Mutua: “This political selfishness is the problem that we have faced in this country - of leaders and opportunists who whine and blackmail all the time and who put their personal interests and not those of Wananchi first.”
OKA’s concerns include Odinga’s potential presidential running mate, which the outfit alleges plans to shortchange them.
In the letter addressed to the political parties registrar Ann Nderitu, the four parties demanded that the running mate of the coalition's flag bearer Raila Odinga be selected as the Deputy Party Leader as is required under the Law.
"Our objection is premised on the fact that three (3) issues have not been agreed upon and are to be deliberated and agreed upon before the Agreement is fully registered, these are as follows: -The number of caucuses; these had been agreed as three (3) on 1st April 2022 and presented as four (4) on the 9th April 2022," read the petition.
They further want the members of the coalition Council under the Coalition Political Party to be increased from the initial seven (7) to eleven (11).
