Police in Dagoretti South have arrested one person and recovered an AK-47 rifle allegedly stolen during Wednesday’s Gen Z protests.
The man arrested, who is said to be the brother of the sought-after
suspect, was nabbed after officers from Kabete Police Station and DCI detectives
raided a homestead in Kirigu, Mutuini, on Friday.
The police say the gun, which is among the five firearms
stolen from the Kingongo Police Post after it was looted and set on fire by
criminals during the chaos, was found under a table.
According to the police report, the escaped suspect is believed
to have vandalised a Cooperative Bank ATM in Dagoretti Market and also went on
a drinking spree while in possession of the weapon.
“Sources say the escaped suspect was seen drinking at a
local pub the night before, allegedly armed, and is believed to be the same man
caught on CCTV vandalising the Cooperative Bank ATM in Dagoretti Market. He has
reportedly been handing out stolen cash to friends,” stated the report.
The suspect is also said to have stolen a pair of police
boots, which were found near the home.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect is accused of transporting
the stolen police station signboard, also caught on camera.
