Detectives in Nairobi have shot dead a suspected robber and recovered a pistol and ammunition after an incident along Jubilee Flyover on Wangari Maathai Road.

In a statement, police said officers from the Nairobi North Sub-Region were on routine foot patrol on March 21, 2026 at about 5.50pm when they received a tip-off from a member of the public that three armed suspects were robbing people in the Makaburini area.

Police said the suspects later emerged from nearby bushland and attacked one of the officers, with one suspect reportedly drawing and pointing a pistol.

Officers opened fire, killing one suspect at the scene, while two others believed to have been wounded escaped into nearby thickets.

A search of the scene led to the recovery of a Blow Mini 9 pistol, a magazine with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, one round chambered, and two additional 9mm rounds allegedly found in the deceased suspect’s trouser pocket.

The scene was processed by officers from Starehe and Gigiri sub-counties together with Scenes of Crime personnel.

The body was moved to City Mortuary pending identification and post-mortem.

Police said detectives are pursuing the two suspects who escaped and urged members of the public with information to report to the nearest DCI office or use the Fichua kwa DCI hotlines.
