Opposition Wants Kenyatta to Withdraw KDF From Kismayu

The leaders, who claim the Jubilee government has completely failed to enhance security in the country, maintained that the Kenyan troops must pull-out of Somalia.

Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga and his deputy Wilson Ouma Onyango say the government has no business keeping its troops in Somalia when Kenyans are being murdered brutally by the Al-Shabaab militia group.

Nominated MP Oburu Odinga blamed the series of attacks on the government’s move to deliberately violate the AMISOM agreement.

According to Odinga, the AMISOM agreement stated that neighbouring countries, including Kenya and Ethiopia, were not supposed to take their troops to Somalia.

Containing terror threats

The leaders were speaking in Bondo town during the launch of an identity and voters’ card registration drive in the region.

Area MP Gideon Ochanda observed the need to also address corruption in the police force as another measure to deal with terrorism in the country.

The leaders were speaking in the aftermath of the Garissa University college attack that saw 142 students killed and 104 others injured.

The government has since assured Kenyans that they are trying to contain the terrorism threat.

Following the Westgate Shopping mall attack that saw 68 people lose their lives in 2013, President Kenyatta said the KDF would remain in Somalia to contain the Al Shabaab threat.
