Over 3,000 Kenyans killed, injured in road accidents from January 1 - NTSA

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced that a total of 3,090 Kenyans have either died or sustained injuries in road accidents from January 1 to February 11, 2024.

According to statistics released by the authority, 563 of the victims have succumbed, 1,403 have been seriously injured and 1,124 have been slightly injured.

In road-user categories, NTSA said that 216 pedestrians died, 246 got serious injuries and 61 got minor injuries.

For drivers, 35 succumbed, 103 were seriously injured and 108 were slightly injured.

One hundred and nine fatalities were recorded for passengers, 535 were seriously injured and 755 got slight injuries.

140 motorbike riders died, 303 got seriously injured and 86 sustained small injuries while 54 pillion passengers died, 202 got serious injuries and 110 had minor injuries.

A total of nine cyclists have been recorded as dead, 14 were seriously injured and four were slightly injured.

The accident numbers are a significant rise as compared to those of 2023 within the same period which was recorded at 2,384.
