Over 600 cars with missing records, owners summoned: NTSA

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has released a list of over 600 vehicles with missing records.

On Tuesday, the agency that is tasked with vehicle inspection and registration gave the owners a deadline of June 5, 2019.

“The owners of motor vehicles listed below are required to present their vehicles for inspection to the nearest NTSA motor vehicle inspection centre,” the NTSA statement reads.

They are also required to submit an original log book, importation documents, national ID card, KRA pin certificate and any other documents that can prove ownership.

The move comes several months after NTSA revealed that they were facing challenges in the production of new car number plates.

Thousands of owners were affected as imported vehicles were detained at the container freight stations (CFS) in Mombasa for four months.

NTSA resulted in having all the registered cars released from the yards without number plates.

At the time, NTSA director for registration and licensing Jacqueline Githinji told the Business Daily that there were no raw materials for new number plates usually produced at the Kamiti Maximum Prison. 

However, on November 16, 2018, the agency released a statement saying that the issue had been resolved.
