The Roseville parents accused of killing their 9-year-old son and abusing six other children pleaded not guilty Friday morning in a Placer County courtroom.

Kimberly and Cory Blakley, both 37, are facing criminal charges of murder, torture, child cruelty and child endangerment in the death of the boy earlier this month.

The parents are also accused of child abuse, neglect or endangerment involving other children, ages 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 13.

According to a release from the family, the boy who died was Cyrus Blakley.

The Roseville Police Department said that on Feb. 2, officers and city firefighters found the 9-year-old unresponsive at a home on New England Drive during a medical aid call.

Police said they attempted lifesaving measures on the boy, but he died on Feb. 5 at the UC Davis Medical Center. His parents were arrested on Feb. 7.

Kimberly is being accused of injuring her 9-year-old son to the point of brain injury, which caused him to suffer paralysis and eventually die. Cory is being accused of willfully causing and permitting the child's fatal injuries to occur.

Kimberly appeared briefly in court last week without Cory.

"One defendant appeared in court, while one defendant refused to leave the holding cell to appear in court," read a statement released last week.

That next court date is set for March 1.

Both defendants are being held at the Placer County Jail without bail.

The family will hold a celebration of life for Cyrus starting at noon on Friday.
