Parliament approves all 24 Cabinet nominees
It has given a nod to Peninah Malonza whose nomination to the Ministry of Tourism was in limbo, following her rejection by the house committee in a report on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the house Committee on Appointments was divided over the nominations of two others; Aisha Jumwa (Public Service), and Mithika Linturi (Agriculture).
While the committee unanimously rejected the nomination of Malonza as Tourism CS, saying she lacks requisite experience and abilities to serve in the docket, Linturi's nomination had hit headwinds over his failure to present his academic degree and pending court cases.
Jumwa's nomination on the other hand, was overlooked owing to a pending court case in which she is accused of fatally shooting a man in 2019 during the Ganda Ward by-election.
According to the Committee, Jumwa's claims that she does not own a gun or a firearm license was not satisfactory to prove her innocence and earn her a ministerial docket.
The latest developments now paves way for the Cabinet Members to be sworn to office as per the constitution.
The nominees will assume office by swearing or affirming faithfulness to the people and the Republic of Kenya before the President.
