Parliament's
Defence and Foreign Relations Committee has approved the nomination of Noordin
Haji as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Haji
will take his oath of office in coming days replacing Philip Kameru who is set
to retire after holding NIS' corner office since September 2014.
President
William Ruto, on May 16, nominated Haji to assume the NIS position.
"His
Excellency the President has transmitted the nomination to the National
Assembly for consideration by Parliament, in fulfilment of the legal
requirements set out under the Constitution and the National Intelligence
Service Act," Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said in a statement then.
Following
Parliament's approval, Haji will now return to NIS where he previously served
as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit.
