Parliamentary aspirant spewing hate messages secures freedom
Ruaraka parliamentary seat aspirant accused of uttering words deemed as propagating hatred and likely to fuel violence has been arraigned.
The investigation officer in the matter came to court under miscellaneous applications seeking to have Jim Clement Ayungo detained in police custody for three days on the basis that they have not completed investigations.
The defence lawyer, however, told the court that they came to court knowing they would take plea and as such were not informed in advance of the custodial orders application.
Milimani Principal Magistrate, Benson Nzakyo, released Ayungo on a Ksh 100,000 cash bail saying that the investigating officer has not presented to court compelling reasons to warrant the detention of the respondent.
The Magistrate further added that Ayungo should report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters when and at the time called upon to aid in the investigations.
The court is yet to decide on charges and when Ayungo will plead to the said offence.
