Patient kills self in Homa Bay hospital isolation ward

A 38-year-old patient has died by suspected suicide at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital on Sunday.

The man identified as Mike Juma is reported to have hanged himself inside ward 7 toilet where he was recuperating after he was admitted.

The hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vincent Oduor says that the Mike, who has been ailing from Tuberculosis was admitted in the isolation cube where he was receiving medical attention. 

Dr Oduor says that the patient went inside the male toilet within ward 7 to bathe but unfortunately, he hanged himself.

The deceased’s body was found inside the toilet by a caretaker who raised an alarm to the hospital management.

Homa Bay Sub County Police Commander Emmanuel Kiplagat, who confirmed the incident, says their preliminary investigation has revealed that the deceased had skipped his TB medications before the incident. 

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
