Patients forced to fetch water from Lake Victoria as hospital taps run dry

Patients at Karungu Sub-county hospital in Migori County have been forced to fetch water from Lake Victoria as water crisis persists in the health facility. 

Kachieng Ward Representative Brian Osodo who was speaking in Sori town during a meeting attended by Migori deputy governor Joseph Mahiri said that the patients seeking health services at the hospital fetch water from the lake, which is about 20 metres away from the hospital.

Osodo said there is an urgent need to have clean and reliable water at the facility to prevent patients from seeking an alternative at the lake. 

He said his office is going to work closely with the County Department of water so that the facility can have water.

In his remarks, Mahiri admitted that the hospital does not have water. the deputy governor said he personally visited the facility where he was able to confirm the concerns from locals.

Mahiri said the county government of Migori has already picked up the matter and the facility is going to have water in due course.

Meanwhile, the water shortage continues to hit Migori town residents for the second week.

A spot check done by Citizen Digital established that taps are dry in a number of estates in Migori County.
