Peter Kinyanjui, whose family claimed he had been abducted by armed people while at his home in Limuru, is currently in police custody.

The grassroots politician, who serves as the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) youth leader in Kiambu County, is said to be under investigation over chaos reported during Gen Z protests in the county.

Kinyanjui’s family told Citizen TV how armed police officers raided his home, causing huge damage before they disappeared with the youthful politician to an unknown location under the cover of darkness.

The National Police Service has, however, acknowledged that Peter Kinyanjui and another woman identified as Wanjiku Thiga are in their custody awaiting court process.

Kinyanjui, alias Kawanjiru, was forcefully taken away from his rented house in Limuru, Kiambu County, in what his family defined as a chaotic abduction.

The late-night saga involved a forceful entry into his house, as those who wanted him fired several rounds to scare away neighbours who attempted to stop their mission.

Kinyanjui’s family alleged efforts to follow up on his whereabouts were in vain, even from the nearest Limuru Police Station.

“Watu wa Limuru na watu wa huku wote walikuwa wamekataa waingie, na walikuja na risasi, na to make the matter worse, wakifyatua risasi wanaokota kila kitu [...] alibebwa na serikali juu wote walikuwa hapo, wenye wako na uniform na wenye hawana, mpaka walikuwa wamevaa hadi mask...” Kinyanjui’s mother Beatrice Wanjiru said.

His wife Catherine Wambui added, “...walisema hayuko Limuru, ati yuko Kiambu, sasa ndiyo tunangoja tuende Kiambu tujue kama yuko huko. Hofu yangu ni... hofu yangu ni wasimfanye vibaya...”

Despite Kinyanjui’s family’s long search for their kin without answers, the National Police Service has revealed the young politician is in their custody at Ruiru Police Station awaiting court process.

However, NPS has not revealed what charges await Kinyanjui, even as sources say he is under investigation over the chaos reported during Gen Z protests in Kiambu County.

“Wasiwasi yangu ni wasimfanyie kitu mbaya...”Wambui pleaded.

Kinyanjui’s family say their child was a staunch supporter of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and that he is a crucial player when it comes to grassroots mobilisation of youths in the county.

As this unfolded, another DCP party youth leader was taken into custody while at Kamakis in Ruiru, and she is currently detained at Ruiru Police Station.

Wanjiku Thiga is also a die-hard supporter of Rigathi Gachagua and is very influential when it comes to selling Gachagua’s agenda in the county.

The two are currently detained at Ruiru Police Station as police work around the clock to present them to court over their links to the highly publicised Gen Z protests of June 2025.

Wanjiku and Kawanjiru are the latest suspects who will have their day in court over what the state has termed as taming those with dissenting voices.
